Scripture

Proverbs 16:16 [CJB]

"16 How much better than gold it is to gain wisdom! Yes, rather than money, choose to gain understanding."

Reflection

You probably guessed that a wisdom chapter would involve Proverbs (I think there is some law that it's required)! However, the book is there for a reason and is a great resource for realignment with what God considers to be wise. There's a lot of wisdom being thrown around by social media and life in general that everyone deems to be important. Business people prioritise productivity and investment knowledge, home decor people convince you that it's highly important you learn how to design a home, and TikTok and Instagram have countless reels asking "did you know" to make you stop and learn something new. I feel like there can be so many things vying for my attention, convincing me that I must learn these things to achieve in life. If I spend my time gaining this wisdom, I will be successful or appear as successful to other people. Today's piece of scripture helps remind us that wisdom is a far greater thing to gain than monetary success. But to take it a step further is to ensure we're gaining the right kind of wisdom, the kind that is considered good by the Lord and not the world.

Today’s quest

Today, when you come across advice, tips, or “wisdom” online, pause and ask yourself: Would this still matter in five years? If not, let it pass. If yes, take a moment to bring it to God in prayer.

Your reflection

Scripture often says that the fear of the lord is the beginning of wisdom. I'm still trying to understand what that means, but definitely whilst on that journey, i can begin with taking a moment to bring all "wisdom" to God in that moment of prayer.
